 I miss my car.
« Thread Started on Sept 17, 2007, 1:33am »

Yeah, I used to have a nice car! It was a 70 Mustang fastback with a 351c It was only a 2 barrell and had real tall gears so it wasn't much off the line, but going through nebraska at 130MPH was smooth as silk. She was calypso coral and about 95% restored when I bought her right after I got back from Germany. I bought her for $5500 after she got appraised for $9600. I stuck a bunch of money into her in a kick ass stereo, new wheels (american racing - torq thrust D's) New rubber and after a couple of weeks of driving around town, it was back to the army and off I rode her to Texas! Oh, I can still hear that rumblin' sound going down US 83 all the way to fort hood with the windows down looking at our beautiful country as I blasted some great music for all the cows to hear. I drove her all around Texas for a few months till I came back home in Late October and when I left on election day 1992 (a dark day in US history) I left her in my parents garage as I rode the greyhound to Texas in the hopes to save some money in my last year in the army. The army decided to stop paying me in Feb/march while I was home on leave again. (during the 1st WTC attack and Waco) So I decided to take my baby back to texas with me and have some fun until I could manage to convince the army to let me free. Now I got 2 tickets on the way down this trip, one outside of pierre, I had slowed way down to like 60 or 65 but I had just hit a 45mph zone, so there went like $200. the next day coming into, a town in Kansas, the name of which I can't remember now. but I got busted doing 110 in a 60 or 65 zone, that one was only about $100 (I shouldn't have sold my radar detector for cash before i left! Freakin' army!!) Well when I finally made it back to the barracks I was in full tilt mode and trying to get myself kicked out of the army since they didn't want to pay me. On post while in the army I never got into one fight (I did say on post and not to say I didn't try a few times but my on post record is 0 fights) But there are a few NCO's that are damn lucky there were some EM's that kept that record in tact! So I decided to join the crew of guys that went out every night and sweat out the booze on next morinings PT run. God I miss nickel nights! (any domestic beer or bar pour drink for a nickel!) My baby was everyones favorite transportation. We took one memorable road trip to Louisiana. My roommate was from Minden (near Shreveport) and we went there for the annual mud bug fest it was a blast! While still in Texas (it is/was legal then for everyone in the car but the driver to have an open container) This car pulls up beside us and tells us to swap lanes, we do so that I am in the left lane and they are in the right lane, This super hot chick starts handing beer to my buds in the passenger and back seat. She says "awesome fucking car!" I had a grin on my face for 3 days! While in Shreveport there is a local cheerleading team doing a carwash fundraiser, if you have seen cheerleaders down south, you know you have to go so I pull in, and it was pretty slow as it was only like 10am (even on our days off we still couldn't help but get up early and start doin' shit) A whole bunch of the cheerleaders come running up and well, think of baywatch, I was doing the best I could not to drool, and they all wanted to get their picture taken with the car and they said they would wash it for free, I still gave them some $ (tryin' to be cool ya know) but now I was definitely not going to be able to stop smiling for a week! I had a lot of good times in the ole 'stang the only minor thing I can think of to bitch about but not really is, well lets just say that some times floor shift and a center console is a pain in the ass, and you really miss an old bench seat!!

Maybe Bill can tell us the joy of going zero to 60, in less than 7 seconds, for the first time in his Camaro. That F350 was one hauling tow truck.

or you could just learn how to drive so that you don't wreck it, but as its a chevy slowmaro its probably too fragile to drive and has to be a trailer queen.

Again, if you knew much about classic cars, you'd know that you don't drive them across country when they are worth so much. Not if you have a lick of common sense.

Furthermore, I couldn't care less if it's not a 10 second car, it doesn't have to be fast. The fact that it's worth big $$$$ is just fine and dandy with me. ;D

like I said it's a fragile trailer queen! I bought my Mustang that was appraised for 10K in 1992 mind you, and stuck a few more grand in stereo and wheels/tires and had no fear of driving it across the country. Of course it was a Ford so I knew it wouldn't break down, unlike a chevy. I hate trailer queens more than anything, even rice burners! Cars are meant to be driven! It's too bad chevy couldn't build a solid enough car to compete with the Mustang, especially since they were trying to make a copy of the Mustang to begin with.

who ever said it was a trailer queen?

I'm just smart enough to protect my investment. When the car is worth over 80K without the original motor in it (which I have btw) it would be asinine to have it out on the highway, or on the track. The occasional cruise night and car show is just fine for me. If I wanted a cheap beater to soup up and tear around town with I'd have one.

Here ya go, here's my 'trailer queen'!!!!!!! ;D

80k? someone tivo's too much Barret Jackson. About 40k if it is the 375hp 396, good bit less if it's the 325hp 396. Don't get me wrong, lovely car, would love to have it.Collector Car Market Review Value Report

Well, considering I've talked numerous times with people very much into the classic car world and who in fact buy and sell at Barret Jackson auctions I trust what I've been told.

Furthermore just by checking NADA:

1967 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport 2 Door Coupe

PRICING

PRICING

PRICING

Original MSRP: $2,677
Low Retail Average Retail Value High Retail
Base Price $14,650 $25,900 $49,200
Options

396 V8 Engine 35% 35% 35%
Super Sport Package 30% 30% 30%
TOTAL PRICE $24,173 $42,735 $81,180

and that's just with the 'correct motor' which doesn't take into account a matching numbers 375 HP 396 which of course makes the car even more valuable.

your numbers makes sense if you are talking about a 'clone'. Start with a base Camaro and add the necessary parts to make it look like a Camaro SS. God knows there are a lot of them out there.
My car is no clone. It left the Norwood plant as a true SS!

Thanks for your imput, but I'm well aware of what the car is worth.

So here are the 2 best pictures of my stang. I always meant to get some good pictures of it, but I was usually more eager to drive it than take pictures of it.
