I think I might do some cash games starting in about the next 6 or 8 weeks but its not for sure yet. I really don't have any desire to host/run tournaments anymore, I would like to play in them, but not running them or hosting them.

Just wondering if you are going to have any games soon. I miss the game. It was fun especially with the people there that I got to know.

 a couple of cripplers.

So I managed to make it to the Deep stack tourney at the elks on Sat. which we started with 20K in chips. I was managing to hover within a 1,000 or so of the starting stack for some time then got on a bit of a roll and had my stack built up to just short of 30K. I was in the small blind, there were a few limpers and no raises so I called the extra 100 with my K8 suited hoping the BB didn't raise, and he didn't. So there were about 5 of us to the Flop which came K98 rainbow. WOO-HOO! I was sure I had the best hand cause if some had pocket 8's 9's or K's they almost certainly would have raised. I decided to check hoping someone with something Like a KQ or KJ limped in. BB checked, then finally a raise to 400, one caller and I popped it to 1,200 it folded around to the original raiser and after a minute he called the other guy who called the first raise, folded to my re-raise so I was heads up. The turn was a nothing 3 and I lead out for 2,800 and after a long pause was called. The river put a damn Ace out there so now I was thinking, did this guy limp in with AK, or even pocket AA's or did he have KJ and was worried about his kicker. I decided to push hard and bet 7,600 which was enough to put him all in. He went into the tank for a long time, so I felt certain my two pair was good, he finally called and he flipped over K9. OUCH! so I was back down to about
18,000 which wasn't short stacked but it still hurt. I then fluctuated up and down in a range between 8,000 - 24,000 for a few levels was moved several times to different tables which always sucks getting moved everytime you just start feeling comfortable at a table. Finally I had my stack up to around 27 or 28K again and I got into a hand where I had an 8 9 of spades and flopped a straight flush draw, with a board of 5s, 7s, Jd. The pot was so built up and there were two all ins that I had covered and I knew obviously that my Straight flush draw was good, the straight draw itself might be good, and who knows maybe just a plain old flush will be good, but I figured one of these guys probably had big spades but I was hoping it would be set against set or two pair so the flush would be good. One player flipped over a set of 5's and the other guy had K2 spades. So my flush draw would be no good but if I made a straight or made my straight flush I would be good. the turn was another 5 giving the one guy quad 5's so now only the 6 of spades could save me, but no such luck. I was now down to around 9K and the ante's were added on and it was only a matter of time, I got ground down till I had exactly 10x the BB and saw an ace an pushed all in. I got called by an AJ and my other card ended up being a deuce and I didn't catch any deuces when I really needed them. Good bye deepstack tourney!

 Different tourney, identical suckout.

So about a month after my last horrific beating I took on the river at nordy's tournament I was back for more punishment. I took one bad beat early when I had a set cracked by a guy calling down with a 6 high flush draw and catching, but I was able to recover and get back over starting stack by the 1st break. Once again I was in the Big blind and no one raised so I was happy to see a free flop with my 7-9 offsuit. The flop came 8-T-2, giving me an open ended straight draw. I was first to act so I put a pot sized bet of 600 out. A few folds then a min re-raise to 1,200. I know I am probably behind but there is now about 2,400 in the pot so at 4:1 I figure I will look at on more card. Bingo, Jack comes on the turn giving me the straigt, and the board is a rainbow so no flush possibilities out there. I check and the only other guy in the hand bets 2,300 I had 2,275 left and put it in there. He proudly flips over JT for two pair and I show my straight, and of course, any time I am a 90%+ favorite you know whats coming, yep he hit the boat on the river, just like how it happened against my straight in the blind I had at the Chips tournament. It never ends.

I was at an area poker tournament and saw one of the guys who used to play at my game often and he came up to me and told me he had just sent me an email. I left the name out, and changed the names referenced in the email in case those people do not want others to see, but other than that here it is.

Hey, Long time since I spoke to you, I went to a tournament at the Eagle's in Mandan and many of the BPC regulars were there and Many other players from your tournament. John doe started talking about how good your game was and to a man everyone said it was one of the most injoyable leages they were ever involved in, So you da man, I just thought you would like to know that. You take care.

I appreciate the kind words. Thanks.

 Still a suckout magnet.
« Result #6 on Feb 1, 2009, 10:47am »

After a 3 1/2 month layoff I thought I might have been able to shake off some of the suck-out factor so many donks have over me, and as the wife had a rare weekend off AND the poker tournament wasn't 1/2 way across the state, I decided to play at the RR poker tour tournament at chips. I was doing pretty good the first hand I played was about 4 or 5 hands in and won about 800 chips and I continued to grow my stack up to about 9K (starting stack is 6K) I went up and down between 7K and 10K till the break where I had around 8K. The first hand after the break I was on the button, blinds were 50/100 there were several limpers and I had Q8 of clubs and decided to limp in, hoping the blinds wouldn't raise, they didn't and we saw the flop. the flop came JT9 rainbow. I flopped the 2nd nuts! The SB checked, BB raised to 500, one guy called, I raised it to 1,500 SB folds, BB pushes all in for another 3,700 other guy folds and I insta call. He flips over a 9T for two pair, I show my straight. He groans, but I am not real excited as I am pretty sure what is coming, Queen on the turn and the 9 on the river gives him a boat and leaves me with about 2,000 left in chips. I in in a few small pots here and there winning and losing small amounts until I pic up pocket 3's I raise preflop and get 2 callers, the flop comes A24 with 2 hearts, the two guys check, I shove my last 1,200 into a pot of about the same size figuring if he doesn't have an ace or a big flush draw, he can't call, dummy goes into the tank for about 10 minutes and finally calls and says, "I know you got that ace" I flip over my 3's and he proudly displays his J4 offsuit he called the preflop raise with. So now I am down to 6 outs with two cards to come, but of course thats not how it works for me. Game over.

I think it was fine. I mean, some people might say that since the blinds the NEXT hand were going to be higher you should raise the 3-4x that amount, but at a 6 handed table a player with pocket 10's is still going to call or raise. Maybe that amount of raise preflop he would have chose just to see the flop instead of re-raising and you might have scarced him away, but I doubt it.

 Your Thoughts on this play
« Result #8 on Sept 16, 2008, 2:29pm »

Was involved in a FTP tournament the other day and I am wondering how you all would have played this. 6 handed table with 25 players left out of 308. I have 23000 in chips - I am sitting right in the middle of remaining players with chip count. The table was the type where a lot of play was preflop with raises and folds.

Blinds are 500/1000 the next hand go to 1000/2000 and I will be in the big blind.

I am UTG with AhJh I raise to 3500. Folds to the button who reraises to 13000. Blinds fold. I think about it and decide that the size of raise either means AK or a small pair ( I think that it is a pair). I don't want to get into a race but I will be in the BB on next hand. I push all in and he calls with pocket 10s. Flop is A J K turn 4 and river is Q. I lose to a straight. But I think that I played it correctly considering blind size and amount of chips.

Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. BTW I did net 30 bucks in that tourney - really wish the race would have gone in my favor.

 WCOOP
« Result #10 on Sept 12, 2008, 11:25am »

I don't know if you are all aware, but the WCOOP (World Champioship of Online Poker) is running on PokerStars thru Sep. The site does offer many satelites at a reasonable price to get into the main events. I got in the NL Holdem 4 handed event thru a satelite ($39). I was able to lie and steal my way to a 260th finish - there were 3300 entrants. My net win was $520.

I was hoping to do better. I can say that in 4 hours of play that I had "big" hands 5 times. It was tough to get in a situation to gain a lot of chips at the table that I was at. The players were pretty tight and would fold to a raise. I took a brutal beat when I had big slick. The dude chased a gut shot all the way to the river even though I raised preflop, bet the flop (king on flop)and turn (pot sized bets). But that is how it goes.

It was gut wrenching when I got close to the bubble. I actually folded JJ preflop. I raised, was reraised and the next player went all in. It was probably a steal, but I knew that I had enough chips to get in the money and I wanted to cash.

If you decide to play - good luck!
